Highlights

Rhino Tracking Mighty Murchison Savannah Wildlife

Itinerary

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel north along the Kampala–Gulu highway, stopping en route at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a conservation gem nestled in Nakasongola District. This is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild rhinos, and you will embark on a guided walking trek accompanied by an armed ranger. The tracking takes one to two hours as you follow the rhinos across savannah and bushland, coming within safe viewing distance of these prehistoric giants. After this unforgettable encounter, you will continue your journey with a lunch stop in Masindi town. As you drive through Budongo Forest, keep an eye out for troops of baboons and monkeys. Upon arrival at Murchison Falls National Park, you will visit the top of the falls, where the mighty Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge and plunges forty five meters below in a thunderous display of power. You will check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

You will rise before dawn for an early morning game drive, setting out around six thirty when wildlife is most active. The vast savannah plains of Murchison Falls National Park are home to elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, Cape buffalo, Uganda kob, waterbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest, warthogs, and hyenas. If you are fortunate, you may spot lions or leopards beginning their hunt in the golden morning light. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch or enjoy a packed meal before heading to the dock for the afternoon boat cruise. This two to three hour journey takes you along the Nile River toward the base of the falls, offering spectacular views of hippos floating in the water, crocodiles sunning on the banks, and a dazzling array of birdlife including the African fish eagle, goliath heron, and the rare shoebill stork. The boat brings you close to the bottom of the falls, where you can feel the spray and hear the roar of the water as it crashes into the devils cauldron. After the cruise, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight

After breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. A final game drive as you exit the park offers one last opportunity to spot wildlife. You will stop along the way for lunch, with the option to revisit the Equator crossing for photographs and souvenirs. You will arrive back in Kampala or Entebbe in the late afternoon, marking the end of your safari
