Itinerary
On this six-day tour of Bulgaria, TSG will take you to three historic locations with a private driver and expert local guide. You'll depart from Sofia, the nation's capital, head to Veliko Tarnovo, a city spread across four hills, and then continue on to Plovdiv. You'll visit important sites like the Thracian Tomb of Kazanluk, which is classified by UNESCO, the Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv, the Bachkovo Monastery, the Rila Monastery, and much more! Welcome to Bulgaria.
After breakfast: a 2-hour guided tour in the heart of the town, during which you will learn about its rich history and see its heritage: the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral – the biggest in Bulgaria, the Saint Sofia Basilica – the symbol of the town, the old Parliament Building, the Presidency, the Saint George Rotunda, one of the oldest churches in Europe, the Roman Remains, and other important historical buildings and sites. Overnight in Sofia.
Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are on our itinerary today; Boyana Church and Rila Monastery. The 13th-century Boyana Church is an incredibly well-preserved and distinctive destination for travelers. Rila Monastery is on the other hand the largest monastery in Bulgaria and will dazzle you with its beauty. The tour will last two hours and end with lunch and free time in the city. After that, transfer to your hotel in Sofia for the night.
A day trip to Plovdiv, which will serve as the cultural capital of the continent in 2019 and is thought to be the oldest town in Europe. You will have a two-hour guided tour during which you will learn about its ancient history and discover its extremely well-preserved and restored heritage, including the Roman forum, stadium, and theater. You will visit the main pedestrian street, which is the longest pedestrian street in Europe. The city is home to lovely houses and cobblestone streets, remnants of the old fortress, and breathtaking panoramic views. You will then have some free time to go to lunch and shop. At 6 o'clock, the anticipated arrival in Sofia for overnight.
Start the day with breakfast before beginning a two-hour drive to Koprivshtitsa, a tiny and vibrant village hidden in the Sredna Gora mountain. The village has a strong ties to the 19th-century Bulgarian National Revival Movement. The traditional homes of wealthy local merchants have been transformed into museums with authentic furniture and decorations, giving visitors a glimpse into the daily lives of those merchants in the past. Several well-known Bulgarian revolutionaries who fought for an independent state under Ottoman rule also called Koprivshtitsa home. The April Uprising, a crucial step toward liberation, started in Koprivshtitsa in 1876. A tour guide will lead you through a few house-museums while providing in-depth information about the important occasions. There will then be some free time for lunch before the trip ends at 5 o'clock in Sofia. Spend the night in Sofia.
