Midyat is a meeting point of the religions of Islam, Christianity, and Yazidis. It is situated in the Mardin province, which is known for its traditional cityscape. The district and the city date back to Mesopotamian first civilizations, and according to the Assyrian tablets of the 9th century BC, its name was Matiate.
