Tour Overview

The Annapurna base camp trek is considered one of the best treks in Nepal. This 13-day trek will take you to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) and to a number of other appealing places along the Annapurna trail. The trail begins at lower altitudes and passes through sub-tropical forests of bamboo, and rhododendron. The region is considered a nature lover’s dream, with over 1226 flowering plants species, 102 mammals, 474 birds, 33 reptiles, and 22 amphibians. You will have some of the best views on the trail of many well known Himalayan peaks: Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m) Mt. Manaslu (8163 m), Mt. Annapurna II (7937 m.), Mt. Annapurna III (7555m), Mt. Annapurna IV (7525m), Mt. Annapurna south (7219m), Mt. Nilgiri (7041m), Mt. Machapuchare (6998m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6986m) and Tukuche Peak (6920m).

From ABC you can see Tharpu Chuli (5663m), Singu Chuli (6501m), Hiunchuli (6441m) and South Annapurna (7219m).

The Manang region is home to Gurung and Thakali people, with their unique stone houses and colorful dress. Their Tibetan Buddhist faith is evident all along the trail. Religious symbols and artifacts, such as Mani stones (stones inscribed in Sanskrit mantras), chortens (lama shrines/monuments), and the fluttering multi-colored Tibetan prayer flags are visible at every turn. Buddhist monasteries (Gompas) are located throughout the region echoing the daily prayers by resident monks and nuns.

The trail takes you to Poon Hill (3210m), a highly regarded place with some of the finest mountain views in Nepal. From Poon Hill in the early morning you can view the snow capped mountains and the pure morning light reflecting off the peaks? You will trek through lush green forests, cross rivers on suspension bridges, walk through terraced cultivated farmland, observe yak grazing on these alpine pastures and cross moraines, and glaciers. You can also enjoy a dip in the hot therapeutic springs at Jhinu Danda. We will first arrive at Machapuchare Base Camp before heading to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m), the highest point on the trek.

All trekking permits, meals and accommodation will be taken care of by Sherpa Expedition Teams. We have an excellent reputation in the trekking and climbing business.

  • Sitting and relaxing in the therapeutic natural hot spring at Jhinu Danda –right beside the river.

Itinerary

A representative from Sherpa Expedition Teams will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel. After arriving at your hotel we will have a briefing where you will have an opportunity to ask questions about the trek and also receive a trek itinerary. You will also get to meet your guide.

We will pick you up from your hotel at around 6.30 am and take you to the tourist bus station. Pokhara is a well-known starting point for trekkers and famous for Phewa Tal (lake). You can also take in some fantastic views of Annapurna and Machapuchare (Fishtail) to the north, Dhaulagiri in the west and Lamjung Himal and Manaslu in the east. Staying in a hotel at Lakeside, Phewa Tal, will also allow you to wander around the shops and visit the many cafes and bars. An ideal end to the day is to watch the sunset over the lake.

This morning we go by private vehicle to Nayapul and then hit the trail and follow the Modi Khola (river) until we reach Birethanti Village (1,015m). We will then follow the north bank of the Burundi Khola (river) before ascending up through the valley to Hille (1,495m). Very soon we come to Tikhedhunga (1,570m). The day’s trek is not too tiring and is relatively easy going. Tonight we will stay at a guest house.

This morning we have a steep climb up to the Magar village of Ulleri (2,070m). We continue to climb higher through rhododendron and oak forests until reaching Banthanti (2,250m) and then to Nangethanti (2,460m). One more hour on the trail and we arrive at Ghorepani (2,840m) where we will stay at a guest house overnight.

To appreciate the views from Poon Hill we will get up before sunrise. After around one hour we reach Poon Hill (3,210m) where the views are absolutely inconceivable. The mountains are glistening in the unspoiled light of the morning, reflecting a variety of colors off the snow-white peaks. After madly snapping photos we will head back down to Ghorepani (2960m) for breakfast. From Ghorepani we ascend along mountain ridges, through rhododendron and pine forests before reaching Deurali (2,960m). After heading down again we come to a intersection at Banthanti and then head to Tadapani. We will stay overnight at a guesthouse.

This morning begins as we head down a steep hill through rhododendron forests before arriving at a mostly Gurung village not far from Chomrong Village (2,140m) where we will stay at a guest house overnight.

Today we head down to Chomrong Khola (river) and then ascend to Khuldighar (2,380m) that was previously an Annapurna Conservation Area check point. From here we head down a steep rocky trail passing through bamboo near the bottom of the gorge while remaining on the west side of the river. Once again we head through bamboo and rhododendron forests until we come to Himalayan Hotel. We will stay overnight at a guest house.

Today it is all uphill as we head to ABC via Hinko Cave, Deurali, and Machapuchare Base Camp before coming to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC 4,130m). At this altitude, you will have impressive clear and unobstructed views over the surrounding snow-capped peaks. This is without a doubt another opportunity to get your camera out!

We will stay here at a guesthouse overnight.

Today we follow the same route we took getting to ABC, descending an incredible 1,700m to the banks of the Modi Khola (river) and on to Bamboo (2,345m) where we will stay at a guesthouse overnight.

Once again we follow the same trail back to Chomrong, first passing Khuldighar and then we trek through rhododendron and bamboo forests. There is a very sheer descent to Chomrong and to Jhinu Danda where we can relax in the therapeutic hot springs. We will stay here overnight at a guest house.

From Jhinu Danda we follow the trail along the banks of the Modi Khola (river) for around 4.5 hours until we come to Birethanti. The trek today is considered to be the most pleasant on the entire trail. It is more like a gentle walk than what we have previously endured. From Nayapul we will drive back to Pokhara. After checking in at the hotel we will take a boat trip to Barahi Temple, located on a tiny island in the middle of Phewa Tal (lake).

Today we head back to Kathmandu with ample time on the way to reflect on your trek to Annapurna Base Camp, while thinking about a list of places to visit next in Nepal. There are many options: a Chitwan jungle safari tour, plummeting down the rapids on a rafting adventure, mountain biking, or a guided shopping tour of Kathmandu. You may decide that the mountains hold a certain appeal and will consider a far-flung trek to near the Tibetan border or Kanchenjunga. We will take you back to your hotel after arriving at Kathmandu.

Today is the day to say goodbye to the beautiful Himalayan Mountains and its amazing inhabitants. A representative from Sherpa Expedition Teams will take you to the airport at least three hours prior to your departure
