Tour Overview

The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal’s Annapurna Conservation Area with its enormous snow-covered mountains, deep gorges & high altitude passes.

This trek circumnavigates the Annapurna Massif and crosses the high altitude Thorong La Pass (5419m) – the highest point on the trek. The trail takes you through the world's deepest gorge – the Kali Gandaki Gorge, and has fantastic views of the massive Mt. Annapurna I (world’s 10th highest - 8091m) and Mt.Dhaulagiri (8167m) to the west – the 7th highest in the world. Several other equally famous Himalayan Mountains are visible on the trek, such as Mt. Manaslu and Himal Chuli. This area is rich in culture and traditions of the local Gurung and Thakali castes in the Manang District.

This 10 day trek takes you into the very heart of the Annapurna Region and starts at Bhulbhule, then to Chame and to the Pisang Valley. Uma Holidays Tours & Travels experienced guide will take you to the villages of Manang, Yak Kharka, Thorong Phedi, Thorong La Pass, Muktinath and Pokhara before heading back to Kathmandu.

Sherpa Expedition Teams have an excellent longstanding reputation and will take care of all permits, meals and accommodation on the trek. We will do our best to make this the most enjoyable holiday of your life!

Itinerary

Early this morning we head by bus to Bhulbhule. Our first destination is Pokhara from where we head north to the bazaar town of Besisahar. From here we follow the Marsyangdi River with views of Ganesh and Manaslu along the way. At Bhulbhule we register our permits at the checkpoint.

Today we head by bus and jeep to Jagat and then to the bustling town of Dharapani (1860m). We then continue on to Chame that sits on the banks of the Marsyangdi River. There are some fantastic views of Annapurna II (7,937m), Lamjung Himal (6,932m), Manaslu (8,154m) and Peak 29 (7,833m).

After leaving Chame we head to the village of Telekhu and on the trail have some magnificent views of the Annapurna Ranges and Mt. Pisang (6091m). Further along the trail, we have to re-cross a suspension bridge to the south side of the Marsyangdi River and then ascend and pass through a pine forest and into the upper reaches of the Manang Valley before coming to Pisang.

Pisang is the beginning of our trek into the upper Manang area. Today we follow a trail to Braga; a Tibetan village with its unique architecture and houses constructed one upon the other. One of Manang’s main attractions is its Gompa (Buddhist temple), being the biggest in the Manang region. Manang is also very popular with trekkers who stay here in order to acclimatize before heading higher.

Today we head out on our journey heading in the direction of Thorong La Pass. The terrain is similar to what you would find on the Tibetan Plateau. We then head to Gunsang as we trek up the valley to Yak Kharka. We then ascend to Tenki leaving the Marsyangdi Valley behind us and continue through the Jarsang Khola Valley until we arrive at Ledar.

We have a short trek today that will help the acclimatization process. Leaving Ledar we come to Jarsang Khola (river - 4310m) and head to Phedi at 4420m/14501 ft. (Phedi meaning foot of the slope). We continue until we reach High Camp.

Today will be the toughest day of the trek as we head to higher altitudes and trek for 8 and 9 hours. The higher altitude will make it more difficult and the common strong winds in these upper regions will also challenge you physically. On the trail we may pass sheep, yaks and merchants transporting their goods by Yak or donkey. On reaching Thorong La Pass we will have some truly astonishing views of Annapurna, Gangapurna and the prominent peak of Khatungkang (6484m). After crossing the pass we plunge a staggering 1600 meters. Mt. Dhaulagiri (Dhavali giri, meaning “White Mountain”) is the highest mountain that is entirely in Nepal and can be seen along the trail. The trail is more undulating and quite easy on the way to Muktinath.

Today we head by road down into the Kali Gandaki valley (deepest in the world) on our way to Jomsom, the regional centre of Mustang. From here we find transport to the village of Tatopani (meaning hot water in Nepali). On the way we can see Annapurna and Dhaulagiri before arriving at Tatopani. You will most likely take a plunge into the therapeutic hot pools to relax.

From Tatopani, we head to the town of Beni Bazaar on our way to Pokhara. Pokhara is well known for its Phewa Tal (lake) where we will stay at a hotel overnight. You may choose to wander the shops along ‘lakeside’ and sit at the edge of the lake and watch the sunset over the Annapurna ranges.

On the road back to Kathmandu we pass the Marsyangdi River and afterward the Trishuli River before coming to Kathmandu. If you begin thinking about further adventures in Nepal, then we are here to assist you.
