Tour Overview
This 10 day Annapurna Base Camp Trek is ideal for those who are pushed for time and yet still want to experience the incredible Annapurna Conservation Area scenery and witness the intriguing lifestyles of the Gurung culture and villages in this region. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC) (4130m) is commonly referred to as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. This trek offers “in your face” views of massive mountain ranges and peaks, including Hiunchuli, Machapuchare (Fishtail) and Annapurna South.
The best time for this trek is in spring when the rhododendron forests (Nepal’s national flower) are come into flower (red, pink & white). However, this trek can be taken at any time of the year. Some of the peaks you will see while on the trail are: Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m), Mt. Manaslu (8163 m), Mt. Annapurna II (7937 m.), Mt. Annapurna III (7555m), Mt. Annapurna IV (7525m), Mt. Annapurna south (7219m), Tharpu Chuli (5663m), Singu Chuli (6501m), Mt. Nilgiri (7041m), Mt. Machapuchare (6998m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6986m) and Tukuche Peak (6920m). This region is recognized for its Tibetan Buddhist presence that is noticeable by the many chortens (Buddhist stone monuments), and colorful Tibetan prayer flags prominent along the trail. You will see yaks grazing, trek through bamboo forests and observe the distinctive Tibetan style architecture in the villages we pass through.
Your amazing adventure begins at Kathmandu from where you will travel by bus to Pokhara and on then to Nayapul (1050m) where we begin our trek with the Modi Khola River immediately below us and terraced rice fields above us. The next village we come to is Chomrong (2170m). The next day we follow the trail as it heads to the Himalaya Lodge at Ghandruk where we will have time to explore this mountainous town and learn about their unique Buddhist culture.
Sherpa Expedition Teams has an excellent reputation for taking care of its clients. We will attend to all permits (required in this region), accommodation and meals on the trek to ABC.
Highlights
Itinerary
A Sherpa Expedition Teams and Tours representative will be there to meet you at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel, the tourist hub of Kathmandu city. Later you will be briefed about the trip. In the evening we will provide a welcome dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant together with a cultural performance.
Today we hit the road to Pokhara, Nepal’s second-largest city and departure point for many Annapurna treks. Along the way, you will witness many small towns and have numerous mountain views. We will stay at a hotel near Phewa Tal (lake). This evening you may choose to watch the sunset over the lake and mountains in the distance.
This morning we will drive to Nayapul alongside the Modi River from where we start our trek to Chomrong – a Gurung town where we will stay overnight.
The trail today follows the Chomrong River passing through rhododendron forests on the way to Dovan/Himalaya Hotel. We will stay here overnight at a lodge.
The trail to ABC is often covered in snow. We will follow a trail that takes us by Hinku Cave and Deurali and via Machapuchare Base Camp (3720m) before arriving at ABC. From ABC you have mind-boggling views of Annapurna I (8091m), Khangsar Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Machapuchare a – a real feast for the eyes! ABC has several teahouses where we will take a break while taking in the views of these magnificent peaks. We will stay here overnight.
After leaving Annapurna Base Camp we retrace our steps on the trail to Bamboo. The trail is mostly downhill which makes it easier to negotiate. On the way down we have views over an amazing landscape before arriving at Bamboo Village where we will stay the night.
After leaving Bamboo we have a short climb before coming to Sinuwa Village (2320m) and then Chomrong. We will stop for a short tea break at Chomrong before an uphill climb and then a descent to the village of Jhinu Danda. This is an opportunity to sit back and relax in the therapeutic hot spring situated just below the Modi River.
This morning we head out on the trail to Nayapul and then travel by bus back to Pokhara. The bus trip is about 1.5 hours.
This morning we head back to Kathmandu on a 6 to 7 hour road trip with many fond memories of our trek to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal and its extraordinary culture and landscape.
Sherpa Expedition Teams staff will take you to the airport at least three hours prior to your departure from Nepal. We hope that this incredible trek will be firmly entrenched in your memory and will prompt you to book your next trek with us! Feel free to contact us with any queries.
