The trek takes you through arid valleys, windswept cliffs, and traditional villages, offering stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Highlights include exploring the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, visiting monasteries, and experiencing the region's distinct Tibetan-influenced culture. The trek is moderately challenging and requires a special permit due to its restricted status.

As you move forward, the places get warmer, and you will find beautiful snow-covered mountains. Passing through beautiful hamlets across midwestern Nepal, we will finally arrive in Pokhara in around 6 hours.
We also have another option to reach Pokhara through a short flight of around 30 minutes. The flight will be shorter and still give you incredible vistas of mountains and Nepali villages.
Upon arrival in Pokhara, you will find the beautiful Phewa Lake. The views of Annapurna, Manaslu, and Macchapuchre(Fishtail) mountains shine brightly. We will transfer to a hotel on the lakeside and spend the night there.

On the third day, we will take a short flight of around 22 minutes to reach Jomsom. The place is the headquarter of the Mustang district. En route, you will find immaculate vistas of mountain ranges like Annapurna, Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri.
Upon arrival at Jomsom, we will start our hike, passing trails of the Kali-Gandaki River valley. After a few hours of trekking, we will reach our day’s destination of Kagbeni, the entry point of Upper Mustang’s “forbidden kingdom.” The place is a pilgrim site for both Hindus and Buddhists. It shows a very evident reflection of Tibetan Buddhism with its culture and people. Places like Kag Chode Thupten and Samphel Ling Monastery are major religious attractions.
Along with its cultural attractions, the place has half a century-old villages made up of mud. You can also see the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges along with the Tukuche peak. Taking in such a mesmerizing environment of Kagbeni, we will officially enter our Upper Mustang journey.
We will transfer ourselves to locally available accommodation in Kagbeni upon arrival. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at Kagbeni.
Tshele's altitude - is 3,050 meters
Walking hours - 6 hours
Overnight stay at Tshele
Today, we will leave Kagbeni early in the morning with an uphill hike towards a gorge of the Kaligandaki River. You will find a tall canyon above the gorge. Following the Kaligandaki River steams higher, we will find unique landscapes with red cliffs. These cliffs cover both sides of the trail.
This part of the trek takes you to Kalo bhir, sky-high caves, rock tunnels, Choterns of white, black, and red colors, etc. Organic apple farms also pass through villages like Tangbe, Gumbakang, and Chhusang.
On chronology, we will first pass the Gurung village of Tangbe, which has white houses with narrow lanes. From Tanbe, we reach Chhusang with a short uphill and a downhill hike. From Chhusang, we continue the trails of Kali Gandaki trails, crossing the river above on a steel bridge to reach Tshele.
We will pass along a few hamlets along with the farmland of Tirigaon village. The hike then leads us to a red cliff canyon that gains its color due to erosion. A few more hours' worth of the walk will take us to our destination, Tshele Village.
We will get accommodated in a local lodge in Tshele and spend the night for the fourth day.

The walk continues towards a hamlet called Bhena. You will pass through juniper trees and cross streams with a steep walk to reach Yamda La top at 3,860 meters. Its height shows amazing views of the whole wide valley of Mustang. You also get beautiful vistas from the Dhaulagiri range. From here, we will do a small downhill hike to reach our destination of Syangbochen. The place is a small settlement area with a few tea shops for accommodation.
We will settle in a teashop, dine there and call it a night, ending the fifth day of the Upper Mustang trek.
Ghami’s altitude - 3,520 meters
Walking hours - 5 hours
Overnight stay at Ghami
The following day we will visit an old monastery in the village. You can observe Buddhist prayer wheels that run with the help of fast-flowing water streams. After a morning exploration of the monastery of the area, we head to the day’s destination of Ghami. We will follow a route that passes through Tamagaon, Ghiling, Chhunggar, and Jhaite villages. The trails show you out-of-the-world landscapes that go well with clear blue skies.
The route between Ghami and Syangbochen shows you typical Tibetan plateau villages among semi-arid desserts of the Himalayas. Today too, you will get mountain views, landscapes, nature, and culture throughout the hike.
A place through the journey called Nyi La en route serves as a great viewpoint to watch the mountain peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. You can also observe barley and buckwheat fields amidst the dry and arid desert of Upper Mustang.
After about 5 hours of walking, we will arrive at Ghami village. It also houses many sky caves in its vicinity and welcomes you into its primeval Tibetan Buddhist lifestyle. We will check into a tea house upon arrival. The day ends with some exploration of the area and then a good night's sleep at our tea house.

The trails are fairly easy from Choya La to Charang and need passing through some terrains and the isolated landmass of the Himalayas.
Reaching Tsarang village, you will be welcomed by a Chorten gate. You will find medieval forts along with Gompas reflecting Mustang features in the village. You will find the Gelup sect of Buddhism practiced in the area. The Tsarang monastery is a clear reflection of it.
The day ends with an overnight stay at Tsarang village’s tea house.

The views extend further to show you mountains like Nilgiri, Tilicho, and Bhrikuti mountains.
The highest point of today’s hike will be at Lo La pass, above 3960 meters. From here, we can see the entirety of Lo Manthang’s kingdom. A short hour's worth of downhill hike from the Lo La pass takes us to our destination of, Lo Manthang.

The monasteries and unique Tibetan houses are also significant sites of attraction. The houses are built in a fort-like structure and lie within narrow laned streets.

Today will also be the day when we pass the highest point of the Upper Mustang trek Nepal. We will pass along to Samduling, Marang La at 4,230 meters, and Muila at 4,170 meters. These points show beautiful sights of red cliffs brightly in the sun.

Again, we can get immaculate views of the whole Mustang village with the Dhaulagiri range. Stunning views of the views and valleys of the surrounding will once again mesmerize you.
From Yamda la Pass, we will do a short downhill hike to reach Bhena and Samar villages, which we have already visited. Then we follow a stream leading us to another familiar hamlet of Gyakar and Chele. The long day walk will finally lead us to our destination of Chusang village.
