Togo Tours
Squeezed between Ghana and Benin, Togo runs barely 150 kilometers wide at points, yet the short east-west drive crosses coastal lagoon, forested hills and dry savanna in the north.
Voodoo Heritage Around Lake Togo
Togoville, across the lagoon from the capital, is considered a spiritual center of Togolese voodoo, with shrines and a lakeside cathedral standing side by side. Fetish markets in Lome sell the herbs, masks and carved figures used in traditional ceremonies, a practice still followed widely rather than staged for visitors.
Highlands and Wildlife in the Interior
North of Kpalime, the Plateaux region grows much of the country's coffee and cocoa on cool, forested slopes good for short hikes to waterfalls. Fazao-Malfakassa National Park, further north again, protects a stretch of wooded savanna that sees only a handful of visitors each year.
