Out Across the Lagoon

Murano's glass furnaces, Burano's painted fishermen's houses and the near-empty cathedral island of Torcello string together into a classic boat day. Torcello's mosaics predate St Mark's and hint at what Venice looked like before it became Venice.

Choosing Your Season

Carnival fills the two weeks before Lent with masks and costumed balls. May and September offer the kindest weather, while November brings mist, occasional acqua alta flooding and the city at its most local. Summer demands early starts and patience.
