Some itineraries add a stop at the Khamlia villages, home to Gnawa musicians descended from West African settlers who arrived along old trans-Saharan trade routes. Camps range from simple tents to more furnished setups with proper beds, and most include a communal dinner accompanied by Berber drumming around a fire.

Fossils and the Ziz Valley Route

Erfoud's fossil quarries have operated for decades, and several workshops in town cut marble-like slabs full of ancient sea creatures into tabletops, sinks, and smaller souvenirs. Tours often include a stop at one of these workshops on the way into or out of town. The drive along the Ziz Gorges is part of the appeal too, cutting through red rock canyons and terraced palm groves that trace the river north toward Er Rachidia.
