After a three-hour drive we arrived at the mountain lake Laguna Culebrilla, starting point for our 5-6 hour hike, partly along an ancient Inca trail, to Ecuador's most important Inca fortress, Ingapirca. The path leads mainly downhill: highest point approximately 4,000 m, destination at 3,200 m. On the way we passed through small mountain towns with a predominantly indigenous population. We spent the night at the rustic Posada Ingapirca. (B/-/­-) 11 Cuenca and surroundingsToday we arrive in the beautiful colonial city of Cuenca, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. A leisurely city tour awaits you. We will visit the famous toquilla straw hats and learn about their production process.
