Da Nang's own draw is a long stretch of city beach on the South China Sea, but most stays here are built around a ring of day trips.
The Marble Mountains and Ba Na Hills
Five marble and limestone hills rise just south of the city, riddled with caves that hold small Buddhist shrines and, during the war, field hospitals. Further inland, a cable car climbs into the Ba Na Hills to the Golden Bridge, held up by two giant stone hands, and a hilltop complex built in the style of a French village.
The Lady Buddha and the Coast
On the Son Tra peninsula, the seated Lady Buddha looks out over the bay from Linh Ung Pagoda, one of the largest statues of its kind in Vietnam. My Khe beach runs for kilometers below the city and stays calm enough for swimming most of the year.
Day Trips Worth the Detour
- Hoi An's old town, half an hour south
- The Cham ruins at My Son
- Hai Van Pass by road or the coastal train
