Floating Markets at Dawn

Cai Rang, near Can Tho, is the best known of the delta's floating markets, though smaller ones at Cai Be and Phong Dien keep a slower pace. Traders arrive before sunrise, so tours generally leave the hotel while it's still dark.

Canals, Coconuts and Sampans

Away from the main rivers, narrow canals shaded by coconut palms and water hyacinth are best explored in a rowed sampan rather than a motorboat, which struggles to fit and disturbs the quiet. Stops along the way usually include a workshop turning coconut into candy or rice into puffed snacks.

A Day Trip or an Overnight

A single day from Ho Chi Minh City covers one province and its main market, usually My Tho or Ben Tre. An overnight trip reaches further, into Can Tho or Chau Doc near the Cambodian border, with more time on the water and less on the road.
