To the east, the Wahiba Sands offer overnight desert camps among dunes that shift in color from gold to red depending on the light.

Salalah and the Khareef Season

In the far south, Salalah turns green during the khareef, a monsoon season from June to September that brings mist and rainfall unlike anywhere else on the Arabian Peninsula. The city is also close to frankincense groves that once made the region a center of the ancient incense trade, along with archaeological sites tied to that history.
